Why Choose the Well Light?
Determining which light fixture to use is one of the key components of good lighting design when it comes to the front yard or backyard space. Each fixture not only has different capabilities when it comes to illumination, but they also sit differently in the space.
When it comes to accentuating vertical features (like the birdhouse in the video), clients have the option of going with an uplight or a well light (otherwise known as a in-ground light). In this video, we go over the benefits of each, and discuss why we installed the well light.
The well light has the advantage of starting it's illumination at the ground level. So the entire birdhouse post is illuminated from the base upwards. In this case, a shoot-up light would have been able to accentuate the post several inches above the ground, and thereby the visual aesthetic of the post would be lost.
Secondarily, the in-ground light is the best choice when it comes to flat grass or greenscape that needs regular lawn mowing or pruning. It's big advantage-that of being flush with the land--means that a lawnmower can go over it with ease. This would not be the case with any other light fixture.
